Prior to coming to Atlas, Ken was the EVP/COO at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. He assisted that facility to achieve a $10 million financial turnaround. He also helped facilitate the transfer of sponsorship from Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth to Providence Health Systems. Before that, Ken held several executive leadership positions at John Muir Health in Walnut Creek, California.
Ken was instrumental in developing the county’s first and only Level One Trauma Center, MuirLab reference laboratory business, and was the key leader responsible for the integration of John Muir and Mt. Diablo Hospitals following their merger. He ran their flagship hospital in Walnut Creek as their chief executive officer, and completed his career there as EVP/COO for the health system.
While there, he helped develop and nurture a concept known as “The John Muir Way”, a culture built around quality, patient safety and teamwork. Ken was part of a team that helped transform a 150 bed community hospital into a $1.8B multi-hospital integrated delivery system, widely recognized as the preeminent healthcare provider in the San Francisco bay area with national recognition seven years in a row by U.S. News and World Report for clinical quality.
Ken has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of CALSTAR (California Shock Trauma Air Rescue) since 1990. During that time, he’s overseen the company’s growth from a two helicopter/base air ambulance provider in the San Francisco bay area to a $50M, 10 helicopter/8 base/2 fixed wing provider serving communities spanning all of northern and central California.
