Now that policies are in place and program components are ready for deployment, the next step is introducing your facility’s safe patient handling and mobility program to your team. And this involves training. We know finding time to train people within a time-challenged healthcare setting can be hard. But it’s not impossible.
Our experience has shown that SPHM training can take place over a series of regularly scheduled in-service seminars, “lunch and learns” and, most importantly, on-going contact with your dedicated SPHM Coach. The SPHM Coach is on-site for a pre-determined time and is responsible for assisting and training all team members with patient handling needs, at both bedside and on the units. This approach eliminates the indirect cost of training care staff away from the bedside while increasing user confidence and compliance.
As successful practices are identified, they will be recommended for wider implementation in the Maintenance & Sustainability phase. Recommendations will be analyzed in terms of end-user feasibility, structural practicality, and fiscal responsibility.
